Allied Media Projects is hiring a Communications Manager

Allied Media Projects seeks a Communications Manager to join their team. This position is full time and based in Detroit, Michigan. The deadline to apply is November 21 at 8:00 p.m. EST.

The Communications Manager will co-develop and implement a communications strategy in support of AMP’s mission to cultivate media-based organizing strategies for a more just, creative, and collaborative world. The Communications Manager will work daily on behalf of the projects operating under the organization’s umbrella, while also communicating the mission and vision of the organization as a whole.

Promoting AMP's Sponsored Projects: The Allied Media Projects’ Sponsored Projects program offers art, media, and technology projects support services such as: fiscal sponsorship, project planning and management, fundraising support, and communications strategy. The Communications Manager will work to increase the visibility, accessibility, understanding, and reach of AMP’s growing network of Sponsored Projects.

Expanding and Deepening Participation in the Allied Media Conference: The Communications Manager will additionally support outreach for and documentation of the annual Allied Media Conference (AMC), with the goal of expanding and deepening participation in the AMC and projecting wider the vision and ideas emerging from the conference.

The Communications Manager will report to AMP's Director of Strategic Operations to determine work plans and strategic priorities. Communications needs will be assessed in consultation with AMP’s Executive Director, and lead staff of the Allied Media Conference and our Sponsored Projects.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Contribute to the development of communications guidelines and implement communications plans for the organization as a whole, the AMC, and each AMP Sponsored Project.
  • Evaluate progress towards communications goals for each Sponsored Project, the AMC, and the organization as a whole.
  • Proofread, edit, and write blog posts for AMP’s website.
  • Produce basic graphic designs as needed for blog posts, social media, and email blasts. (*AMP hires an outside designer for major design projects)
  • Manage AMP’s email newsletter.
  • Manage AMP’s social media accounts.
  • Manage the production of special reports and publications.
  • Edit the annual Allied Media Conference program book.
  • Manage outside services who are contracted for specific communications responsibilities such as public relations, graphic design, web design, videography and photography, and copywriting/copyediting.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Superior written and verbal communications
  • Ability to edit the work of others, to engage with the work to draw out essential ideas, expressed with clarity and conciseness
  • Experience identifying and developing audiences and developing effective outreach campaigns to them (such as event promotion, advocacy, fundraising, product launch, etc.) with measurably effective results
  • Experience with content management systems such as Drupal and Wordpress
  • Familiarity with Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign
  • Familiarity with AMP’s work. Allied Media Projects’ diverse range of programming works at the intersection of media arts, transformative education, community technology, and social justice. The ideal candidate has specific knowledge in at least one of these fields and interest and capacity to quickly learn about those fields in which you may not be as familiar.
