Betty Leacraft Among Five Other Artists in High In Fiber! Exhibit

Betty Leacraft (ACG '16, '14, 09, LTA '11, WOO '99) will have her work presented along with five other artists in High In Fiber!, an exhibit by the University City Arts League that highlights how artists communicate about the complexities of our world through textiles. The opening reception will be held on January 13 from 6:00pm to 8:00pm at the University City Arts League (4226 Spruce Street, Philadelphia, PA 19104). Other featured artists include Asimina Chremos, Marie Elcin, Matt Jacobs, and Heidi Leitzke.

"Landscapes notated in brushwork and stitched mark-making. Silk frozen in its flowing movement, adhered to the wall. Warm quilted fabrics depicting a demolished row home. Brash portraits compiled from a multiplicity of embroidered stitches. Traditionally dyed fabrics whose patterns jump to a beat. Delicate doilies, colonize on the wall like lichen. In High In Fiber! we present the work of six artists who bridge a multitude of visual references through textiles, a medium still thought of as “traditional” and “craft” despite the exciting experimentation clearly evidenced here. Using stitching to offer a direct connection to the hand, and the softness of fabric to contrast harder surfaces, these artists are communicating the complexities of our world with a deft touch."

-Zoe Cohen & Yvonne Lung, Curators

The show will be on exhibit from January 13 until February 10.
