Building Community Art Spaces Panel Discussion

Fleisher Art Memorial presents Building Community Art Spaces Panel Discussion at El Corazón Cultural Center, Taller Puertorriqueño (2600 N 5th Street) on Saturday, April 8, 2017, 11:00 AM - 12:30 PM.

As Fleisher Art Memorial reflects on its history of access to the arts and the evolving needs of the communities surrounding it, it is gathering four of Philadelphia's cultural leaders who are currently developing, or have recently completed major capital projects for a panel discussion to analyze the impact that their new facilities have made on the region's cultural landscape and to illuminate the ways in which conversations with residents informed the success of their projects.

While vibrant spaces supporting artists in making, learning, and exhibiting can be found throughout Philadelphia, these four projects have become powerful community-based creative resources and stand apart from the rest due to their intentional inclusivity and engagement of local residents. Implementing discrete approaches and operating models, both nonprofit and private, each of these new spaces enrich the city's creative community and the social fabric of their immediate neighborhoods.

The discussion will be moderated by Liz Grimaldi, Fleisher's Executive Director, and will feature opening remarks by Alan Greenberger, Head of the Department of Architecture, Design, and Urbanism at Drexel University and former Deputy Mayor for Economic Development.

Panelists:

Carmen Febo San-Miguel, Executive Director of Taller Puertorriqueño
Gayle Isa, Executive Director of Asian Arts Initiative
Lindsey Scannapieco, Co-founder and Managing Director of Scout Urban, Ltd., developer of Bok
Kira Strong, Deputy Director of Design and Construction for the City of Philadelphia's ReBuild Initiative, and former-Vice President of Community and Economic Development of People's Emergency Center, developer of 4050 Apartments
