Grantmakers United for Trans Communities Leadership Development Fellowship Program

Grantmakers United for Trans Communities Leadership Development Fellowship Program

Professional Development Fellowship Program

A key component to expand funding for trans and gender nonconforming communities is the need to shift the culture of philanthropy to be more inclusive and supportive of trans and gender nonconforming people within the sector itself.

One major goal of GUTC is to develop trans leadership in philanthropy. We hope to support, increase, and diversify the number of trans people working in philanthropy. While the number of trans-identified people employed within the philanthropic sector has been steadily increasing, trans-specific professional development opportunities are lacking.

To meet this need, we are proud to offer the Grantmakers United for Trans Communities Leadership Development Fellowship!  We will select our inaugural cohort for this year-long program in the spring of 2018.

Fellowship Components:

The GUTC Leadership Development Fellowship Program will provide ongoing support, peer networking, and leadership and professional development to a cohort of 6 trans, gender non-conforming, or non-binary professionals in philanthropy over a 12-month fellowship period, beginning in April 2018.

There is no fee to participate.

Fellows will receive the following:

A mentor who can provide advice and support related to fellows’ specific career interests and aspirations.
A 2-day in-person retreat for peer networking, skills development, and self-care.
Help to develop a personalized professional development plan, with realistic goals and support.
Regular, personalized 1-on-1 career coaching.
Ongoing skills development opportunities such as virtual trainings and free registration for philanthropy conferences.
Peer networking with the fellowship cohort, as well as with more-experienced trans professionals in the field.

Eligibility

The GUTC Leadership Development Fellowship Program is open to all trans-identified, gender non-binary, and gender non-conforming persons who are currently employed full- or part-time with a philanthropic entity based in the United States. For the purposes of this program, “Philanthropic entity” is defined as any grantmaking foundations (private, public, corporate, family, etc.), donor-advised fund, or philanthropic infrastructure organizations (affinity groups, regional associations, etc.). Fellows may be employed in a variety of roles within the sector, including but not limited to program work, communications, finance, or organizational administration. Fellows can be based anywhere in the United States. Trans staff who are employed at nonprofit advocacy groups that do not award grants are not eligible for this program.

Priority consideration will be given to trans, gender non-conforming and non-binary persons of color, trans persons who are women of color, and those with less than five years of work experience.
