Lambda Literary Seeks Awards Administrator

Lambda Literary seeks Awards Administrator. Under the direction of the Executive Director, the Awards Administrator performs a wide variety of tasks that ensure the smooth operation of Lambda Literary's juried awards and prizes, from selection of judges to selection of the winners. This is a part-time position.
 
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
 

  • With general direction from the Executive Director, the Awards Administrator:
  • Reviews the judicial selection, book submission, special award application protocol and judging process with the Executive Director and appropriate Lambda Literary staff.
  • Reviews the timelines and deadlines established for the various stages of the Awards process.
  • Researches, contacts, and enrolls a diverse roster of highly qualified judges with the goal of selecting four judges (including one to serve as the Chair) for each of the Lammy Award categories and two for each of the special award categories (e.g., Emerging Writer and Mid-Career Novelist).
  • Answers questions from authors and publishers regarding the submission process and correct category choices.
  • Verifies that publishers and/or authors have been advised that nominations are open and are aware of the deadlines and correct process for submitting their books.
  • Organizes and facilitates the judging of the Awards with emphasis on ensuring that the judges understand and follow the judging guidelines and respect the need for complete confidentiality during and after the judging process.
  • Ensures that the judges meet the deadlines for choosing the finalists (short-list) and winner in each Lammy category.
  • Prepares short bios of the judges.
  • Prepares a short monthly blurb related to the Lammy process for the Lambda Literary newsletter.
  •  Reviews and suggests updates/changes to all official awards selection documents (e.g., Award Guidelines and Submission Instructions, Category Descriptions, Judging guidelines, Conflict of Interest/Confidentiality Agreement for judges, Lammy Rating Sheet, special award applications).
  • Provides an end-of-cycle report for the Executive Director with details of successes and challenges and recommendations for improvement.
  • Performs other duties necessary for the benefit of Lambda Literary as assigned by the Executive Director.

 

REQUIRED SKILLS:

  • High degree of independence, initiative, responsibility, and accountability
  • Well-developed, oral and written skills
  • The ability to work with and lead a wide variety of individuals
  • General use of MS Office applications, Google docs and programs such as WordPress, Constant Contact and Survey Monkey.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Three years experience working in nonprofit organizations, arts/literary organizations or the publishing industry.
  • Knowledgeable of LGBTQ literature, authors and publishing
