Sandra Andino’s (ACG '14, '09, 05) exhibit Afro-Latino in Philadelphia: Stories from El Barrio work acknowledges the role of African heritage within Latino identity. Her photography and recorded excerpts of conversations offer an intimate view of her subjects lives that depicts a collective consciousness about the connection of Latin@s to their African heritage. Sandra Andino is an artist and an educator with a PhD in Cultural Anthropology who believes in the power of arts education to transform lives. Her photographs document personal stories and express her vision as an Afro-Latina artist. Andino is a three-time recipient of the Leeway Foundation Art for Social Change grant.
