Nichole Canuso Performs Midway Ave in New York

Nichole Canuso (WOO '03), Artistic Director of Nichole Canuso Dance Company will present Midway Avenue from August 27 to 30 at HERE (145 6th Ave, NYC). Midway Avenue is a sly and intimate solo dance/performance that embraces the complexity of memory – tracing the logic of what we remember and what we forget. The evening will be shared with Brooklyn-based artist Laura Peterson’s mathematical and highly physical group work entitled Atomic Orbital.

Midway Avenue is a one-woman dance-story-map-tour of the house you grew up in super-imposes itself on your current home-- bending walls, twinning rooms, tilting windows. Canuso questions, constructs and transforms the outlines of her memories as she builds and takes apart her house. Stories and images of growing up in 1980s Philadelphia are inventoried and systematized within a constantly shifting landscape. With careful attention and playful abandon Canuso tackles questions about what we embrace, erase, distort or reimagine.

New York choreographer Laura Peterson has created a new, abstract and architectural dance about the location and movement of subatomic particles. Known for her mathematical and highly physical dances this group work was created from research about the regions within an atom where electrons are most likely to be found.

Midway Avenue will be performed at HERE (145 6th Ave., NYC) on Thursday, August 27 through Saturday, August 29 at 8:30pm and Sunday, August 30 at 4:00pm. Tickets are $15.00 and can be purchased here
