Nominate a Community Leader for the 2014 DARLA Awards

In 2009, Mayor Michael Nutter proclaimed April 16th to be GALAEI Day in Philadelphia. In honor of GALAEI Day, the organization will honor an individual who shows leadership and works to improve the community in ways that align with GALAEI’s mission. GALAEI is a queer Latin@ social justice organization. Queer acknowledges and represents the mosaic of sexual and gender identities within our communities. Latin@ represents the multiracial, multicultural experience of Latinidad. GALAEI embodies the common history of resistance and resilience of Latin@ and queer people. GALAEI is unwavering in their commitment to the advancement de nuestra familia through leadership and economic development, sexual empowerment, and grassroots organizing. We want to hear from you! Please consider nominating an individual for the 5th Annual David Acosta Revolutionary Leader Award (DARLA). ELIGIBILITY: This year they will honor an adult over the age of 24 who resides in Philadelphia, Bucks, Chester, Montgomery or Delaware County. All applications must be complete. All nominations must be received online, via email, or postmarked by April 15th. All nominees must be available to attend the award ceremony May 9th at William Way Community Center, 1315 Spruce Street. CRITERIA: Evaluation criteria may include, but is not limited to: passion for improving the community, dedication to projects the nominee has been involved with, integrity in all aspects of nominee’s life, vision for a better community that inspires others and hope that the vision can be achieved.
