Sarah Mittledorf Takes Part in Asian American Theater Conference & Festival Panel

Sarah Mitteldorf (ACG '12) will take part in a panel addressing casting and representation for Asian Americans in media during the 2014 National Asian American Theater Conference and Festival. The panel will take place on Saturday, October 11 at 9:30am at the Asian Arts Initiative (1219 Vine Street).

Sarah Mitteldorf is a local director, theatre person, and art-maker. She and her collaborators focus on devised work with the ensemble Kaleid Theatre (as in kaleidoscope, as in collide). In 2012-2013, she worked with a group of middle school students, who had been adopted from China, to create the piece Many Ways, which explored their individual and collective experiences and was featured in the Inquirer. Last spring, she directed two staged readings for the Asian American Play-Reading series hosted by AAI and InterAct Theatre. Favorite directing credits include Glow (2013 Kaleid), Polaroid Stories (2013 Allens Lane Theatre), and Eurydice in Grand Central (2012 Kaleid, NYC).

She will be joined by plawright and director Rick Shiomi, actor Pun Bandhu, and Artistic Director of Mu Performing Arts, Randy Reyes. The panel description reads: Yellow face acting and stereotypical representations of Asian Americans continue to plague us.  This panel discussion between actors, directors, producers, and playwrights addresses recent issues across the country, seeking to conjure up new ideas for change.
