The Artist Catalyst Residency Announces Call for Artists for Southwest Roots Program

The Artist Catalyst Residency is currently seeking artists for an ongoing art and horticulture-based initiative. The 10-month residency uses community-engaged practices to engage Southwest Philadelphia residents in the future of their neighborhood. Deadline: January 13.

The Artist Catalyst for Southwest Roots is a collaboration of Bartram's Garden and Mural Arts Philadelphia. Southwest Roots explores how artists and communities can reimagine a park’s civic potential and create greater access to urban green space and the riverfront. The work is supported by a grant from ArtPlace America. The Artist Catalyst is expected to make a time commitment equivalent to 20 hours per week, from mid-February through the end of the residency in late October.  The artist will be required to launch two or three pilot interventions and complete one signature project. The residency fee is $25,000 and the budget for art projects is $25,000. The artist will work with the support of Mural Arts Philadelphia and the Southwest Roots project management and curatorial team.
