Toni Kersey exhibits at James A. Michener Art Museum

Toni Kersey (ACG '11, '07) will be exhibiting work as part of Crossing Boundaries: Marking Art a collaboration between Bucks County and Philadelphia youth and the James A. Michener Art Museum (138 S. Pine St., Doylestown, PA). The exhibition will feature almost 100 original mixed media constructions inspired by self-identity themes and the work of Amalia Amaki, Faith Ringold, Frida Kahlo, and Philadelphia artist Toni Kersey. The exhibition is free and open to the public from May 17 through June 8, and visitors may see the student work during museum hours: Tuesday through Saturday, 10:00am - 4:30pm, and Sunday from 12:00pm-4:30pm.

Through their artwork, student artists were encouraged to reflect upon a sense of place, depict their home and school environments, and share life experiences, personal history, interests, passions, family, friends, and relationships. In addition, students wrote the reflective essays displayed here, which help inform the images they created. The creative process provided students with the opportunity to explore the enduring questions Where do I come from? Where am I going? What will I do when I get there? This artwork is a rare glimpse into the challenges faced and opportunities afforded for young people living in two very different communities. We see the innate qualities of youth - resilience, spirit, promise, invention, and hope - crossing boundaries.
