Warrior Writers Celebrates its 10th Birthday with Weekend-Long Events

Warrior Writers celebrates 10 years of providing creative opportunities and support for veterans from November 17-19 with a happy hour, poetry reading, and party at various Center City locations. Register here to receive details and updates about events and more.

Friday Nov. 17, 6:30-8PM: Social Action Happy Hour (spontaneous poetry)
Friday Nov. 17, 8-10:15PM: Broken Stones play (includes intermission)
Attendees to these events will receive half-price tickets to that Nov. 17 performance (as available) and discounts on wine and beer.
Where: InterAct Theatre, 302 S. Hicks St., Philadelphia
What: Broken Stones:Based on an extremely true story. Fact: priceless artifacts were looted from The Baghdad Museum in 2003 during the Iraq War. Fact: A U.S. marine went in to investigate who was responsible. Everything else is open for interpretation. When a well-meaning veteran meets his ghostwriter, mythologies mix, truth is refashioned into click bait, and reality itself begins to shift. Kennedy’s world premiere is an intense, cinematic thriller that examines the appropriation of narrative and just what it means to print the legend.

Saturday, Nov. 18, 3-5PM: Warrior Writers poetry reading at PHLA (Philadelphia Assembled)
Where: 2525 Pennsylvania Ave., Philadelphia
What: Celebrate 10 years of dynamic and powerful veteran writers with us. The performance will be held at Philadelphia Assembled, an amazing project that speaks to sanctuary, futures, sovereignty, movement and reconstructions. We will be featuring some of our own Philly hometown favorites as well as friends from far away. This spectacular show is not to be missed.

Saturday, Nov. 18, 6-9PM: Birthday Celebration at Culture Works
Where: 1315 Walnut St. Suite 320
What: Join us for an enchanting evening featuring live drawing/painting, special musical acts, and offerings of wellness including acupuncture, massage, Reiki and more! There will also be book binding and art activities — as well as a silent auction including visual artwork, signed books, hand-made journals, acupuncture treatments, theatre tickets, and more. In addition, there will only be a couple of selected poems shared, based on attendee votes. This event is family friendly and food will be served but feel free to bring desserts and drinks.
