In this interactive workshop, Lambda award-winning writer and illustrator Nicole Georges will lead participants through her process as a comic and zine creator, exploring how these mediums can be used as tools for storytelling and empowerment. More so, what are best practices for taking these tools into communities outside of our own?
Georges will recount what she's learned in her own 20 years of experience sharing zines as an organizer, teacher, and artist - as well as best practices, ethics, and funding options. Participants will leave with tools for how to ethically and cooperatively tell someone else's story, be it written, drawn, or spoken.
Presented in partnership with Amalgam Comics & Coffeehouse, CultureWorks Greater Philadelphia, Leeway Foundation, and Temple College of Liberal Arts, this workshop is free, but space is limited so RSVP is required. Children are welcome and ASL available with prior notice (by October 11).
