FAQ

Can I collaborate with someone? Can we apply jointly?

Yes, you can apply collaboratively for all Leeway grants. Each collaborator must meet Leeway's basic eligibility requirements.

There is space on the artist information page to tell us who you are collaborating with. If you apply as a collaboration, you are applying for the award jointly, i.e., either for $2,500 (ACG) or $15,000 (LTA) that will be split between the collaborating artists (there is no limit on how many artists can collaborate on one project).

Separately you will submit your Artist Information page and Experience page, as well as your age and residency documentation.

Everything else must be submitted jointly (i.e., you must fill out the ACG Project Description and Project Budget together and secure one Change Partner letter, for the LTA, you will fill out the Description page together).

Please note: if you apply jointly for the LTA, you and your collaborating artist(s) must have five years worth of experience creating art for social change together.

Can I apply for and be granted an Art & Change grant in the same year that I (later) apply for a Transformation Award?

Yes, you can (as long as you have not received the Transformation Award in the past five years).

Please make sure all final reports are turned in after your grant period.

Can an acceptance email/letter from the place I'm doing a residency suffice for the Change Partner letter - it details what I'll be doing there and it has the dates and contact info?

No. The goal of this grant is to enable art and social change work to happen, and much of this happens through relationships and working together with others, whether organizations or persons. A Change Partner is a person, organization, or business that is providing the opportunity or is a part of the project in some way.

This letter will be shared with the review panel to provide more information about your project.

Your application must include a letter of support from a Change Partner, addressed to the review panel (e.g., Dear Review Panel), that details:

  • The Change Partner's relationship to you and/or your project.
  • Why this project is important and why the Change Partner is involved.
  • The Change Partner's role in the project.
  • The dates of the project.
  • The Change Partner's contact information, so that we can call them if we have questions about your work with the Change Partner.

Think of this letter as a letter of support for your art and social change work, a way of someone vouching for the work you are doing and the impact it has. The CP can talk about the impact of your work and why they want to support/collaborate/work with you.
