2017 Art and Change Grant – $2,500

Amber will create a solo performance that unearths the Indigenous woman’s voice through the Cherokee perspective and responds to current curatorial gaps in male-centered Native American art and history exhibits. Amber will complete dramaturgical research and cultural immersion in Cherokee, NC and perform the one-woman show as an exhibit performance at the Penn Museum on Columbus Day and as a theatrical piece for the Philadelphia Fringe Festival. She will also offer it as a teaching device for the curriculum of Independence Charter School.

The Transformation Award provides unrestricted annual awards of $15,000 to women and trans* artists living in the Delaware Valley region who create art for social change and have done so for the past five years or more, demonstrating a long-term commitment to social change work. 2018 applications will be available in January, 2018. Artists J Mase III (ACG '07), Brooklyn Dreamwolf (YaliniDream & Jendog Lonewolf), Dane Figueroa Edidi, and Regie Cabico will facilitate workshops on performance, hip hop lyricism, writing and more.
