Andrea Lyons

I enjoy the physicality of paint.
I sometimes feel as if I sculpt with paint.
My subjects become more real as I play with the idea of literally
breaking out from the canvas with a built up formation of paint.
I've developed using wax as well as fired clay to elaborate
these surfaces.
Experimenting with photo transfers, found objects and additional
forms that materialize my thinking appeals to me.
The subject matter I choose is a direct reflection of my world
as I see it.
I react emotionally to young people.
Their struggles and dreams are profound.
Recalling my own youth I identify with them.
Ironically, I now teach art at the very school
I attended as a child.
MEMORIES FLOAT BACK OF MY CHILDHOOD.
