2016 Art and Change Grant – $2,500

Kate will facilitate a two-hour workshop with clients of domestic violence agencies and other survivors in Philadelphia.  The workshop will begin with a short performance by Kate about her own experience reclaiming power after an abusive relationship. The performance will raise questions about stigma, shame, power, patriarchal culture, cycles of violence and bring up ideas about speaking out, healing, and growth. Following the performance, she will facilitate a group discussion and then invite participants to process and explore their own experiences through writing. The goal of the workshop is to connect women’s lived experiences and provide space for collective and individual exploration to reclaim power.
