Kenzi will photograph members of her queer community to explore the use of fashion as a means of individualization and gender performance. Kenzi’s photographs will expand queer archives, celebrate chosen family, and reimagine fashion photography to document life rather than to sell a product. In Kenzi’s experience, queer individuals rely on friendships and intimate relationships for support, as their families of origin may not accept them for who they are. The portraits will represent the ways kinship networks are created through shared affinities, including style. Kenzi’s large format color photographs will also celebrate racial diversity, gender non-conformity, and a myriad of body types. She wants this project to be shown in a gallery, published online, and made into a book.
