2016 Art and Change Grant – $2,500

Nanci Hersh will organize a series of collaborative workshops with YoungMoms, a non-profit providing support services to pregnant and parenting young mothers in Chester County, PA. Together, participants of YoungMoms and volunteer mentors will create, design, and self-publish a book for the young women to have as a parenting and community resource. This illustrated and printed manual will share information gained from the group's monthly dinner and workshops. The workshops will include life skills training, community resources, and parent/child activities.

DE-CODED: Art + Tech for Social Change

Leeway Foundation hosts the May Live Culture event at PhillyCAM! Live Culture is an open house and live TV production that happens on the first Friday of every month, curated by different arts and culture organizations. Since it’s Philly Tech Week, we’re focusing on local artists who utilize new media and technology to build alternate landscapes at the intersections of art and social change. Featuring presentations and conversations with poet and digital artist Andrea Walls (ACG ’14) and independent filmmaker M. Asli Dukan (ACG ’16, ’14, LTA ’16), we'll explore and answer questions like, How has technology enabled you to express an idea that couldn't have been conveyed otherwise? What conversations aren't happening in the space of creative technology?
