Tara will create a book called Sistahs Coping, which will comprise essays, poems, and short stories, by African American girls and women whose fathers have been murdered. Throughout its creation, Tara will allow space for participants to share experiences of untold trauma, unresolved emotional anguish, and vicious cycles of hostility and poverty that plague their lives and communities. The project will culminate in an event to promote the book and display photographs of the daughters and their fathers. Tara's wish is that her project not only serve as a therapeutic resource, but also as the first step to promote public awareness of the lasting emotional, economic, and social effects that are often overlooked amongst African American women due to the deaths of their fathers.
