The Leeway Foundation is a Philadelphia-based independent foundation that supports individual women and trans artists working at the intersection of arts, culture and social justice towards systemic change and community transformation.
The Grants Program Intern will work together with the Program Director to support the administrative and outreach elements of our grant programs, including:
Assisting in the preparation and promotion of grant information sessions;
Assisting in the administrative aspects of the Art and Change Grant and review panel process;
Assisting in the preparation and promotion of our bi-annual community partner gathering;
Assisting in gathering grant applications’ data;
Reading and assessing grant applications for the Art and Change Grant together with Leeway staff as part of the internal staff review;
Other special projects as assigned.
This intern reports directly to the Program Director but supports the work of programs, communications, and administration at Leeway.
This internship is an excellent opportunity to learn about the foundation’s communications, public relations, as well as social media strategy and administration. The intern will be required to assist with initiatives that support grant programs. Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite, social media and web-based platforms is essential; graphic design and database experience is helpful but not required.

Assist in the maintenance of a content schedule for social media, website, and e-mail campaigns
Publish articles and press releases related to staff or grantees on Leeway’s News page

Update Community Partner information
Occasional update of annual mailing lists
Research venues and event spaces
Compile text for Annual Artist Book
Event Planning & Promotion
Maintain guest list
Send out reminder emails
Make phone calls
Assist Communications Assistant with set up and breakdown (tables, chairs, tech equipment, supplies, catering)
Prepare registration mechanism (sign in sheet or electronic)
Draft and prepare event feedback forms
Evaluate feedback and compile into comprehensive report
Share feedback and observations with staff and facilitators
This intern reports directly to the Communications Director but supports the work of communications, programs, and administration at Leeway.
The start dates for both positions are flexible, but ideally start in January 2019. Interns are asked to work a minimum of 12 hours a week; schedule is flexible during daytime business hours, though participation at the weekly staff meetings Wednesdays at 11am is required. This is a paid internship, and course credit is available for students.
Gabriela Sanchez Selected to Participate in Knight Foundation Fellowship
Gabriela Sanchez (ACG '16) is among 20 community leaders from cities across the nation selected to participate in Emerging City Champions Fellowship Program. She will produce a multi-disciplinary live theatre program in a public space that will create culturally-resonating performances that celebrate the voices of women and girls of color and foster intergenerational dialogues.
