Vivian Green

Vivian is a playwright whose work has always revolved around social issues such as injustice, prejudice, and human transgressions.  Over time, Vivian realized that older people had concerns that were specific to their own age group and those issues have become the subject of her work, e.g., loss of a mate, the loss of identity, isolation due to loss of family and friends, diminished sexual powers, deteriorating health, loss of jobs and income, as well as issues related to dealing with a new partner and new family. In touring plays about older people to senior organizations, she hopes to raise awareness of the challenges particular to this generation; problems that will eventually concern anyone who lives long enough.  Vivian believes that theater presents a uniquely powerful medium to raise consciousness because it moves people to become emotionally involved. Her plays, Dancing in the Dark, Single Again/Female, and Single Again/Male, dramatize the difficulties faced by older single people as they take the first awkward steps toward starting over. She is currently collaborating with a director on a mash-up of Single Again/Female and Single Again/Male.
