Annie Mok to read from “Screentests” at Vox Populi

West Philly-based cartoonist Annie Mok (ACG '13) will read from Screentests, her most fully-realized work to date, at the Vox Populi Gallery in the Aux Performance Space (319 N. 11th St, 3rd Floor) on Friday, January 17 at 7:00pm. Annie's gorgeous and heart-wrenching comic Screentests includes two separate comics – Pictures of Candy Darling and Body Language. [learn more]

Colette Fu Interviewed about her Pop Up Art

Colette Fu (LTA '13) was recently interviewed for Asia Society blog for her art work focusing on Chinese minority cultures. In 2008, Colette received a Fulbright Fellowship to travel to China's Yunnan Province and photograph the 25 ethnic minorities of her mother's hometown. That journey culminated in her latest pop-up book, We Are Tiger Dragon People, which reflects the community's rich local histories, traditions, and tastes in colorful and vibrant collages. These books may be purchased directly from Fu or through the Brooklyn Artist Alliance. Two of her books will be on display at Booklyn's LA Book Fair from January 31 to February 2. [learn more]

Still Untitled: A Quarterly Literary Salon

The Still Untitled: Quarterly Literary Salon, hosted by Marissa Johnson-Valenzuela (ACG '12, LTA '05) will be held at 4921 Catharine St. in West Philly on Saturday February 8 at 7:00pm. This salon is well into its second year. It's a lovely evening with other lit lovers, featuring two writers at the beginning, and then, after a short intermission, allow a brief open mic from names drawn out of a hat. Please consider bringing something to share– work of your own, or some of your favorite work of someone else's. This month features writers Hillary Plum, Michelle Taransky, and a short film by Irit Reinheimer (ACG '06). [learn more]

Call for Artist: Fleisher Art Memorial Wind Challenge Exhibition

The Fleisher Art Memorial announces the call for entries for the 37th season of the Wind Challenge Exhibition Series. This juried, regional competition, has gained a national reputation for excellence since it began in 1978. Each season, Fleisher exhibits the work of selected artists in three three-person exhibitions. [learn more]

Black Radio in Philadelphia; New Audio Documentary

Yowei Shaw's (LTA '13, ACG '13, '11, '10, '09) is a senior producer of a new audio documentary  "Going Black: The Legacy of Philly Soul Radio, ". "Going Black" examines the legacy of Black radio, with a special focus on the legendary WDAS in Philadelphia. The story of Black radio in Philadelphia is actually the story of a music that would have gone undiscovered, of Civil Rights and progress in the African-American community, and of how the radio medium has changed in the last century. The documentary special is hosted by legendary Sound of Philadelphia (TSOP) music producer and Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Kenny Gamble. [learn more]

Residency Opportunity at Women’s Studio Workshop

Eight week residency grants are available for artists to create new public art projects for our town, Rosendale, New York. Temporary sculpture, installations or interventions for accessible sites will be considered. Work must be viable for four months. This new opportunity is funded by the National Endowment for the Arts and is intended to highlight the economic impact artists have in their community. [learn more]
