Art Sanctuary Hiring Teaching Artists

Calling all Artists and Educators!

For the past three years, with the support of our amazing institutional partners, Art Sanctuary has been proud to offer the ArtSTAC Program to teaching artists of color in Philadelphia - a professional learning community aimed at supporting teaching artists, providing them with tools for growing as educators, and providing them meaningful teaching opportunities in schools and community based organizations.

We are recruiting for 2016-2017!

Art Sanctuary places Teaching Artists in school-based residencies; after school programs; weekend programs; and community based organizations. Teaching Artists are supported in curriculum design, teaching, and professional development through a variety of ways, including:

  • Interdisciplinary collaboration nights at the gallery
  • Workshops & speaker events for working Artists
  • Monthly Learning Circle for Teaching Artists*
  • Teaching observations & feedback*
  • Curriculum design support*

Who we're looking for:

You are flexible, accountable, creative, and always looking to learn and grow; you are independent and also enjoy collaborating; you're an artist who is passionate about your craft; and most of all, you're a loving educator with a strong need to serve our city's youth.

(Think you may be a great fit but unsure if you're a match? Don't be shy - reach out below.)

What you'll do:

Based on your availability, interest, and residency openings, you will participate in one or both of our opportunities this year:

1. Alongside other Teaching Artists, be a part of the Art Sanctuary Saturday Academy at Universal Alcorn Middle Years Academy (serving students from a number of Universal elementary & middle schools) to help produce a beautiful production of the Lion King

2. Building off our work to create a vibrant and bespoke arts experience grounded in texts from the Civil Rights movement, teach in classroom & after school settings for residencies usually lasting 8-12 weeks (built around your availability).

Deadline: Rolling.
