Betty Leacraft Exhibit and Hand Dye Workshop

Betty Leacraft (LTA '11, ACG '09, WOO '99) will be part of the group exhibition, Conscience of the Human Spirit: The Life of Nelson Mandela, which celebrates his life and work. Betty's quilt art will premiere at the International Quilt Africa Convention in Johannesburg, South Africa and tour the United States for two years. Michigan State University Museum of Art and The Women of Color Quilters Network organized the exhibition. Betty will be hosting a event to fund her trip to South Africa at the Community Education Center (3500 Lancaster Ave) on Tuesday, April 8 from 5:30pm-8:30pm. There will be a presentation, light refreshments, a raffle and selected items for sale. 

In addition, Betty will be facilitate three, hand dyeing classes for adults at the Community Education Center (3500 Lancaster Ave) this spring. Explore the wonderful world of color, learn to manipulate & bind cotton cloth to create patterns, mix colors, apply dye and take home a piece suitable for framing or use in your personal projects. Beautiful hand dyed textiles from Betty's collection will provide inspiration. Instructor will provide, dye, cotton cloth, binding materials and latex gloves. Students must bring a full length apron and wear suitable clothing in case you drip dye on yourself. Special Note: If you are allergic to latex gloves, let the instructor know when you register.
