Betty Leacraft (ACG ’14, LTA ’11, ACG ’09, WOO ’99) will host a dedication of the hand-dyed fabric banners created in her hand dyeing workshop, as well as a slide presentation at the Community Education Center (3500 Lancaster Avenue) on Wednesday November 18 at 6:00pm. The presentation will focus on selected art quilts from the International Quilt Convention Africa in Johannesburg, South Africa and the exhibition, Conscience of the Human Spirit: The Life of Nelson Mandela. The event is free, but donations are appreciated.
The six-foot textile banners were created in Betty’s fabric dyeing workshop, and will permanently adorn the walls of The Community Education Center’s dance studio. They honor the memory of Baba Robert Crowder, founder of Kulu Mele African Dance and Drum Ensemble, and will serve as a physical reminder of participants’ collective artistic experience
