The City of Philadelphia’s Percent for Art Program, through the Office of Arts, Culture and the Creative Economy (OACCE) announces a $25,000 competition to commission a site-specific artwork for Smith Playground, located in South Philadelphia. This commission is part of the $3 million full scale renovation of the park undertaken by Make the World Better Foundation and Urban Roots in partnership with Philadelphia Parks & Recreation, Philadelphia Water and Councilman Kenyatta Johnson’s Office. The first phase of construction is complete and the second phase, currently underway, is slated for completion by early 2018.

The Percent for Art Program and Philadelphia Parks & Recreation, in partnership with Make the World Better Foundation and Urban Roots seek to commission a high quality, original site-specific artwork that celebrates the fully renovated playground as well as the cultural vibrancy of Smith Playground’s community. More information, as well as a site visit, will be given at the Pre-Proposal Meeting.
