Laura Deutch Presents Responsive Media Production and Transmedia Activism Workshop Series

Laura Deutch (ACG '10) will lead a series of workshops at Scribe Video Center (4212 Chestnut Street, 3rd Floor) on Thursdays, September 18, October 2, 9, and 16 from 7:00pm to 9:00pm. This is an opportunity to learn multimedia storytelling tools, interactive platforms, and nonlinear approaches to presenting your work. From interactive documentary to multimedia tools for community journalists, this workshop will explore possibilities for transmedia projects.

Laura Deutch is a Philadelphia-based media artist and educator who uses participatory processes to engage communities in expanded documentary production. Her recent documentary, El Sol Sale Para Todos (2010), chronicles the Mexican community in South Philadelphia. It has been presented at over 20 screenings and educational presentations; it was selected for broadcast on public television as part of the Philadelphia Stories series. Her most recent project, Messages in Motion, a mobile media studio, works with neighborhood programs and community-based organizations to produce, distribute and exhibit short form documentary. MIM was selected for the People’s Biennial, organized by Independent Curators International (ICI), which toured 5 cities in the US from 2010-2012. Laura was also recently honored at SXSW as a Dewey Winburne Community Service Award Honoree. She coordinates the Philadelphia Youth Media Collaborative and teaches classes at University of the Arts, and various media arts organizations throughout Philadelphia. She serves on the board of Termite TV Collective, and holds an MFA in Film and Media Arts from Temple University.
