Leila Ghaznavi Presents Broken Wing, an Original Play

Leila Ghaznavi (ACG '14, '12) presents Broken Wing, a new Middle Eastern play, at the Philadelphia Fringe Festival from September 10 - 19.

In a land of sand, blood, and roses, where disasters are counted in stones, two men’s good intentions for one woman have unexpected consequences when modern life, Persian myth, and love collide.

In this one hour play, tragedy, love and comedy come together when an Adam, an American photo-journalist travels to Iran. Lured by the innocent beauty of his host's wife, Adam steps from behind the camera for the first time. Tragedy ensues when cultures collide, but the beauty of friendship, sacrifice, and love preserves. Told through visual poetry created from dance and shadow puppetry, Broken Wing is sure to delight the senses.

The cast includes playwright Leila Ghaznavi, Mal Whyte, and Robert Stineman. Candace Cihocki directs, and Matt Sharp created the lighting design.

“I was driven to create Broken Wing because I wanted to create a piece that looked at the East/West cultural conflict, but not from a position of right and wrong. I wanted to explore how two ways of thinking -- both well intended, can come together in destruction through a lack of understanding. In this piece there are no strict protagonists or antagonists, just a world of good intentions,” said playwright, Leila Ghaznavi.

Admission for the show is $10 - $12.
