More about Lynn and the exhibit:

Lynn Blackwell Denton is an accomplished Philadelphia artist whose vibrant use of color and symbols creates electrifying patterns and energetic atmospheres. Complementing Isaiah Zagar’s mosaic works, Personal Symbols showcases abstract pieces that combine sculptural, ceramic, and painting elements, and also highlights Denton’s community projects with untrained artists and children.

Denton’s textural use of watercolor, paint, and oil pastel creates exciting patterns that dance throughout the galleries. Along with her multimedia works, Personal Symbols explores Denton’s collaborations with untrained artists. Featured projects include a mosaic mural and sculpture garden created with the Arts and Spirituality Center, and a SEPTA commission in the Susquehanna/Dauphin Subway Station, where she collaborated with 160 children from surrounding neighborhoods.

Denton has been exhibited in various solo and group exhibitions, including the Institute of Contemporary Art in Philadelphia, the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, and Nexus Gallery. Denton has received two Pollock-Krasner Foundation grants and two residencies from the Mid-Atlantic Arts Foundation. She was the recipient of the Independence Foundation Fellowship and has served on the board of the Philadelphia Independent Film and Video Association. She also founded the east coast branch of the Philadelphia Artists’ Conference Network, an organization focused on empowering artists.
