Merián Soto Selected As NALAC Fund for the Arts Grantee

Merián Soto (LTA '16) was selected as one of 43 grant awardees for the 13th cycle of the NALAC Fund for the Arts grant program. These 43 recipients are recognized for their artistic excellence in pursuit of social justice through the arts and were selected from a pool of over 400 applications by a national peer panel process involving 45 arts experts representing diverse disciplines, regions and ethnicities. Alongside fellow choreographer Viveca Vázquez, Soto received a $5,000 NFA Artist Grant this year to support the creation of a script and rough cut of Rompeforma ¡Fenomenal! 1989-1996, a documentary on the celebrated Latinx experimental dance & performance festival, Rompeforma: Maratón de Baile, Performance & Visuales. The film celebrates, preserves, and showcases the repertoire of a generation of Latinx experimental dance, performance, and curation in Puerto Rico.

About NALAC: The National Association of Latino Arts and Cultures (NALAC) is the nation’s leading non-profit exclusively dedicated to the promotion, advancement, development, and cultivation of the Latinx arts field. The NALAC Fund for the Arts (NFA) is the only national grant program supporting Latino artists and organizations in all creative disciplines.
