Preserving The Future: A Conversation with Jane Golden and Lily Yeh

The City of Philadelphia Mural Arts Program and The Village of Arts and Humanities will host an unprecedented conversation about legacy, preservation, and sustainability with Mural Arts founder and Executive Director Jane Golden and Village founder Lily Yeh (LAA '99), guided by journalist and producer Elisabeth Perez Luna. The two visionary women will share their experiences as internationally renowned artists, activists, and entrepreneurs who laid the groundwork for Philadelphia’s community-engaged public art scene in the early 1980’s and who continue to define the way arts and culture organizations help transform people, places, and the socioeconomic challenges of today. This panel discussion is part of an event series celebrating the re-creation of The Village’s Ile Ife Guardian Mural, first painted by Lily Yeh and community members in 1986. Mural Arts and The Village have joined forces to re-create this iconic image as a tribute to the power of shared expertise and collaboration among non-profit arts organizations in Philadelphia, and in recognition of the vital importance of public art preservation.

Preserving the Future will take place Tuesday, September 30, 6:00-8:00 pm at Stewart Auditorium at Moore College of Art & Design (20th Street & Benjamin Franklin Parkway). This event is free of charge and open to the public, but registration is required
