Take a first look at new work produced by Li Sumpter during her 6-month Leeway x NextFab Art and Technology residency. As a part of NextFab’s monthly Makers Happy Hour, Li will showcase her boom4Real Escape Pod project, a series of multi-purpose eco-art objects that double as discreet storage vessels for survival tools and emergency supplies. boom4Real is the latest iteration of Li's ongoing engagement with the "art of survival" and its many forms and functions. Inspired by graffiti writers and raw artists like Jean Michel Basquiat, who became urban gods of street culture and creative resistance, boom4Real stands for self-Reliance, community Readiness, Resilience and Renewal---the core tenets of Li's D.I.Y. eco-awareness campaign, the Escape Artist Initiative.
