SCHEDULE

10:00am-11:00am
Opening Space, Breathing Space, Making Space: A Yoga Practice to Honor Leeway’s 25 Years with Sheena Sood
A quarter of a century of supporting feminist art to give thanks for! No better way to honor that gratitude than with a Hatha-inspired heart-centering yoga practice. This offering will be great for beginners or yogis who have a regular practice. We will set individual and collective intentions, engage our internal selves through breath, body and mind activation and envision the magic we are destined for in the next 25 years! A practice you don’t want to miss! While I will invite us to use and move our bodies, I am prepared to offer adjustments/alternatives to anyone who prefers a chair or sitting practice. Please email sheena.sood1@gmail.com if you have any special needs/requests. All are welcome!

Food Making Workshop with JBK
We will be discussing and learning about fruits and veggies that resemble the body part it helps keep healthy. There will be an introduction on herbs good for cleansing energy and space. We will be making smoothies or salads for the body parts that folx might need to give some extra love. Participants will engage in a short discussion on fruits vegetables and herbs that keep the mind, body, and soul healthy. Kids will be able to color in worksheets of a few veggies that look like body parts. Everyone will be able to eat a small salad or smoothie.

11:00am-12:00pm
Zine Making Workshop with Kerri Radley
Join zine maker Kerri Radley for a zine making workshop! Zines are self-published "booklets," where the content, look, and feel of the publication are completely up to the writer/maker. Participants will learn the art of DIY cut and paste and the basics of how to layout and create this low-cost, low-tech medium. Materials will be supplied to make your very own 8-page mini zine.

12:00pm-1:00pm
What's Poppin?!: Welcome into the kitchen with Laquanda Dobson and Kristin Schwab
Follow your nose to an intergenerational hands-on seasoning class and cooking exploration. Together with your friends and fam, create a unique spice blend for seasoning your popcorn that's rooted in your people's food ways and inspired by your collective imagination.

1:30pm-2:30pm
A guided tour of MAKING SPACE, Leeway's 25th anniversary exhibition with executive director and exhibition curator Denise Brown.

Paper Arts Workshop with Erika Guadalupe Nuñez
Local community artist Erika Guadalupe Nuñez will lead a workshop on the folkloric paper arts associated with Day of the Dead. Participants will go through the steps of creating papel picado and cempazuchitl de papel, also known as paper cuts and paper marigolds. After learning the significance of each tradition, participants will craft their own pieces with the choice to take their pieces home or contribute them to the Leeway Ancestors altar.

3:00pm-4:30pm
Artists Talk: Collaborative Installation with One is Part of the Many collaborators Anula Shetty, Betty Leacraft, & Michelle Ortiz; Colored Girls Museum curators Vashti DuBois & Syd Carpenter; and Day of the Dead installation artist Erika Guadalupe Nuñez. Moderated by by artist and artblog managing editor Imani Roach.

4:30pm-5:00pm
