2012 Art and Change Grant – $2,500

Takeya will create Taki Mam, a series of animations where the main character is a non-white, bisexual, pregnant action figure. The cartoon will address feminist values, inequality, esoteric journeys, and gender roles defined by society and outlandish situations with sexual partners. The project is motivated by lack of representation of gender non-conforming folks, pregnant “studs” and masculine female parents in the media and in the animation industry.

The Window of Opportunity (WOO) grant provides financial assistance of up to $1,500 to Leeway grant and award recipients to help them take advantage of imminent, time-sensitive opportunities to support their art for social change practice. The Community Care Fund (CCF) provides financial assistance of up to $1,250 to Leeway grant and award recipients to support with immediate and essential emergency needs. [read more]
