March 2013 Art and Change Grants Announced

The Leeway Foundation announces today $52,869 in grants to 28 women and transgender artists and cultural producers living in the six-county Philadelphia area (including Camden, NJ) to further their work integrating a variety of arts disciplines and social change.

The Art and Change Grant provides project-based grants of up to $2,500 to women and transgender (which includes those who identify as transsexual and genderqueer) artists and cultural producers who: have art and social change projects or opportunities that impact a larger group, audience or community; have financial need; and live in the Delaware Valley area.

The March deadline was the first cycle for 2013. The grants awarded went to artists working in a variety of fields including performance, literary arts, human-powered sculpture, media arts and story-telling portraiture.

This cycle’s 28 grantees, selected out of 66 applications, are:

Art and Change Grants are distributed twice per year and evaluated by an independent peer review panel.  The March 2013 review panel consisted of literary artist and poet, Andrea Walls; DJ, musician and cultural producer, Chaska Sofia (ACG ’11); and visual artist and curator, Roya Rastegar.

Applications are made available on the Leeway website and outreach events are held throughout the year. The next Art and Change Grant deadline is August 1, 2013.

The Window of Opportunity (WOO) grant provides financial assistance of up to $1,500 to Leeway grant and award recipients to help them take advantage of imminent, time-sensitive opportunities to support their art for social change practice. The Community Care Fund (CCF) provides financial assistance of up to $1,250 to Leeway grant and award recipients to support with immediate and essential emergency needs. [read more]
