Leeway to present at National Alliance of Media Arts and Culture

Philadelphia—Leeway Communications Director Maori Karmael Holmes (ACG ’05, ’06, LTA ’06) will join other media and social justice workers from around the country to present at this year’s National Alliance for Media Arts and Culture (NAMAC) Conference, August 26-29 at The Boston Park Plaza Hotel in Boston, MA.  Maori will moderate “The Art of Change” panel discussion scheduled for Saturday August 29.

ABOUT THE CONFERENCE

The annual conference convenes media makers, artists, scholars, researchers, technologists, policy workers, media and visual arts organizations, and advocacy groups to cross-pollinate ideas and chart an innovative path forward. The conference will focus on this era of flux: new Administration, new Congress, shifting demographics, evolving economics, emergent technologies, and what it all means for media arts and culture.

This year’s highlights include open space discussions, a Media & Arts Town Hall Meeting to help set up community advocacy priorities, as well as an array of sessions on critical issues like arts as economic development, arts and social change, participatory media and user-generated content, the future of public media, audience and revenue development in the digital age, the state of arts funding, social networks, and much more.

For years, NAMAC’s National Conferences has brought together creators, thinkers, policy makers, administrators and funders to hear the most current thinking about the field’s future opportunities, to create a national platform for media arts, and to strengthen networks. Structured around one or more key theme areas, each day allows all who attend an opportunity to hear, to participate, and to chart our future together.

One of the hot topics in deconstructing the juggernaut of Obama’s election campaign was the critical role of arts in presenting the candidate’s image and generating an emotionally engaged base of supporters. What have we learned about art and advocacy that we can apply to social change efforts on a myriad of critical issues? In this session, we’ll share strategies for connecting purposeful art to strategic campaigns.
