ASIAN ARTS INITIATIVE’S 25TH ANNIVERSARY!

Join us this May as we celebrate Asian Arts Initiative’s 25th anniversary with multi-disciplinary arts experiences across the city. Established in 1993, Asian Arts Initiative was founded as a response to community concerns about growing racial tension between African American and Asian American communities. Today, our work remains rooted in this initial concern and our programming centers around building community, promoting racial equity, and gaining greater cross-cultural understanding through the arts.

The celebration weekend includes:

Exhibition opening of 25+ commissioned artist projects curated byAlexandra Chang, including six site-specific (ex)CHANGE: History Place Presence projects

Poetry and performance showcase organized by Michelle Myers

Ananya Dance Theater performances at the Painted Bride Art Center

A Critical Conversation focused on Refugee Experience and the Arts in partnership with the Smithsonian Asian Pacific American Center
