"For Women Collective" Presents Black Girls Matter

"For Women Collective" presents Black Girls Matter, Saturday, May 17 at 1:15pm at the University of the Arts (Terra Hall, 211 South Broad Street.) In light of the abduction of 234-plus of our African girls from their Nigerian school, the “For Women Collective” will perform poetry and songs that serve as testimonies of our sisterly love and struggles, from womb to womanhood. Debra Powell-Wright (ACG '11, '06) formed the “For Women Collective” after publication of her collection of short stories and poems, For Women: In Tribute to Nina Simone. Since the collection’s December 2012 debut, members of the ensemble have performed poetry and excerpts from their short stories, along with songs made famous by Nina Simone, at several venues including: Dell Music Center, IDEA Performing Arts Center, and Crozer Public Library. Debra’s poetry has been published in Drum Voices Review, Essence Magazine, The African, and BMa: The Sonia Sanchez Literary Review, to name a few.
