Colored Girls Museum Festival 2016
The Colored Girls Museum, created by Vashti Dubois (ACG ’16, ’12, LTA ’06), will present the First Annual Colored Girls Museum Festival at FringeArts (140 North Columbus Boulevard) on July 9, from 2:00pm – 10:00pm.
The Colored Girls Museum is a memoir museum, which honors the stories, experiences, and history of women of color. The Museum itself is headquartered in the historic neighborhood of Germantown in Philadelphia, an area renowned for its compliment of historic buildings and homes. The Colored Girls Museum Festival celebrates the diverse culture and myriad stories of the "ordinary, extraordinary Colored girl” through music, featured artists, vendors, and an open community dance party.
Several of The Colored Girls Museum artists are Leeway Foundation grantees, including Barbara Bullock (BBA ’02), Betsy Z. Casañas (LTA ’08), Betty Leacraft (ACG ’14, ’09, LTA ’11, WOO ’99), Celestine Wilson-Hughes (ACG ’09), Marie Marthol Clark (ACG ’08), Rhashidah Perry-Jones (ACG ’09), Robin Williams-Turnage (ACG ’11), and Toni Kersey (ACG ’07).
Philadelphia Fringe Arts Center has invited The Colored Girls Museum to its new, state-of-the-art, multi-purpose performance facility to create a unique community festival.
