"I want my photographs to have an emotional impact," says Ada Luisa Trillo (ACG '18), a Philadelphia-based photographer who made the more than 2,000-mile trek from Tapachula to Tijuana on the widely publicized caravan of migrants hoping to enter the United States near the end of last year.

Trillo, whose work on the caravan was recently chronicled by Helen Ubiñas for the Philadelphia Inquirer, need not worry. Her photographs, many of which focus on children, are visceral and demonstrate the urgency she feels for her subjects. "They are innocents," she says of the migrants on the caravan. "I want my photographs to inspire people to action. We should all want to do something."

Thanks to a Leeway Art and Change Grant, the show will also feature photos Ada captured of people living in safe houses in the major border towns of Mexico. Her photos, she says, document the cruelties and injustices of the failed immigration policy under the current administration and highlight the contributions that immigrants from South and Central America have made to our country.
