Taino Cultural Workshop Hosts Film Screening of Even the Rain
The Taino Cultural Workshop in collaboration with the Caribbean Community in Philadelphia will host a film screening of Even the Rain (También la lluvia) on June 3 at 7:00 PM at UNIA ACL Division 121, 1609-11 Cecil B Moore Avenue.
SYNOPSIS:
The 2010 Spanish film is about a Spanish director and his crew who travel to Bolivia to shoot a motion picture about Christopher Columbus and his conquest of the Caribbean. They unexpectedly find themselves in a dilemma when one of their key native actors, Daniel, is a leading activist in the protest against the privatization of the local water supply during the 2000 Cochabamba protests.
Followed by a PANEL DISCUSSION:
The talks will focus on how colonialism affected the peoples of the Caribbean during the time of contact, Indigenous survival, and what effects are still felt today in the Caribbean and the rest of the Americas.
