Transportation and the Environment Discussions

Planet Philadelphia
4-5:00 PM Friday 1/15/21
92.9 FM WGGT-LP in Philadelphia and live streaming at [gtownradio.com]

Transportation is one of the big contributors to greenhouse gases as well as pollution. Public transportation, which may be better for the environment, is having significant financial problems, which are being exacerbated by COVID-19. How can we address these environmental transportation problems?

  • • Dr. Megan Smirti Ryerson is the UPS Chair of Transportation and a professor in the departments of City and Regional Planning and of Electrical and Systems Engineering at the University of Pennsylvania. She will tell us about the problems with our current transportation systems, the intersection of these issues with the environment, and how we might fix these problems.
  • • Dr. Eric Goldwyn is a researcher and professor at New York University. Among his affiliations there is the Transportation and Land-Use program at the Marron Institute. He will be talking about work on urban transportation systems in our COVID-19 era and the future.
